Our world is imbued with diverse scents that each individual perceives in his or her own way. Fragrances tell the story of societies and their individuals, reviving deeply buried memories and highlighting the most intimate aspects of a person, their home, their feelings, their states of mind. Fragrances are also an invitation to a journey of the mind and body, transcending territories through encounters with others and foreign cultures. The aim of this book is to raise awareness of the olfactory part of our lives, to create sharing and memories by helping us discover the most intimate olfactory imprints of the territories around us, thanks to our craftsmanship skills. By taking oriental scents as the main object of study, this book is a manifesto of my belief that olfaction has a central role to play in our businesses, and even more so in the years to come, as the perception of design and craftsmanship depends on multi-sensory and «total» experiences.

This book is the first to look at the practical integration of scents into the crafting process. Pushing back the boundaries between designer and chemist, I deal with the microencapsulation process applied to lacquer work, in objects, furniture, architecture and decoration.
